The site is located in the Baiguo Mountain Forest Park, and covers a total area of 241 hectares, consisting of a 164 ha. Theme Area and a 77 ha. Experience Area. Participants are governments, corporations, organization and universities.
From the Expo website: ’Niek Roozen, Chief Landscape Architect of Floriade 1992 and 2002, has been invited to guide the design to suit both refined and popular tastes and to present both artistic and ornamental works. Trees and flowers suited to the climate of Qingdao have been introduced to ensure “flowers are in bloom three seasons a year and trees evergreen all year round”.
Our advice work focuses on the planting schemes and assuring that they correspond to the color design of the entire expo. We also set up experimental test plots to monitor the growth of newly introduced spring, summer and autumn flowers for this area.
Now that the exhibition is open, the impressively large park is full of colourful flowers. Some of the gardens are especially beautiful, such as the national entries of Suzhou and Shanghai. The beautifully constructed Botanical Pavilion, with its algae exposition and rain forest planting, is definitely worth a visit. The exhibition is open until October.
