“Greening Kota Tua: A Green City Approach” is the name of the brochure produced for Phase II of the Green City Kota Tua project. Together with Henk van Reuler from Wageningen University, we travelled to Jakarta to meet with representatives of the Indonesian Flower Association, the Department of Public Works and the International Association of Horticultural Producers to ask them what needs to be done in order to assure quality trees and parks in the city. We also visited the largest plant nursery in the country to see how trees are grown and prepared for the urban market. The brochure, also available in Indonesian, uses the Green City Principles as a way to communicate the need for responsible budgeting, education and awareness of the use and care of green as key elements to successful urban green projects. Kota Tua is used as a case study to create awareness of the impact of quality green in the city. The Dutch Embassy in Jakarta understands the value of the continual search for ways to revitalize this area.
