Shanghai is planning an ecological belt all around the metropolitan area. Our project area is an important part of this belt. It helps to shape the border of the city and to control city growth. It will become a very important recreation area for the citizens and tourists.
Shanghai has recently built seven countryside parks. The Heqing Countryside Park is the largest and the only one in the Pudong district. As a part of the green corridor the Heqing Countryside Park will function as the ‘lung of the city’ helping to balance the cities coastal climate. It is the core area for a more ecological Pudong and stands out for its strong seaside characteristics.
The plan introduces a new type of landscape to the existing landscape. This new area of woods and lakes connects the agriculture area to the large-scale recreational coastal zone.
The program is related to these landscape zones. Large recreational activities are located in the coastal zone bordering the sea. By projecting the new road into the sea a new seaside experience is created. The adjacent lake district is a more natural zones with forest and wetlands, mainly with wetland resorts and water sports. It is the transition zone between seaside and agricultural inland.
In the agricultural zone visitors can experience the modern agricultural science and technology as well as the traditional organic agriculture. The different functions are connected by an extended water system, existing of canals, lakes and natural creeks.
An intelligent phased water system purifies the agricultural water before it flows into the ecological zone. This sophisticated water structure connects the scenic landscape zones and different functions in the area. Together with ‘sponge city’ measures the water structure helps to control the surface rainwater and functions as storm water management.
