The surface area of paving will increase due to this urban development, which will have consequences for the water management. In order to prevent flooding, it is important to create extra areas for water storage within the park zone. Water can be collected and naturally filtered before returning slowly to the existing waterways. A system of helophyte filters will be used to purify the waterways and new water connections will assure a constant flow of water. This is beneficial for the ecological and recreational value of the area. By connecting the pools of water, an important recreational network for the residents will be created as well as an ecological network for flora and fauna.
The presence of water will be emphasized with a boulevard which will be created along the waterway connecting all of the areas with each other. The boulevard varies in width and special functions will be added at important nodes.
The area also has different functions and characters which are associated with their urban surroundings. The west side includes a commercial centre with a number of plazas and a large water element. Space is created for events and terraces. The outdoor spaces in this area will be used intensively.
The mountains play a large role in the middle area of the park zone. They determine the amount of space left for water and the boulevard. There are a number of valleys between the mountains which all connected back to the boulevard. Each valley has a different character. The natural feeling of the area is emphasized here.
The large flat area in the eastern part of the plan is dominated by businesses. The design of the urban plan is connected to the direction of the flow of water. Small outdoor urban spaces and sports facilities are the most important spaces in this area of the park.
The design is based on the natural setting and the existing elements. The proposed layer of urban development and park zones will create a new impulse for the entire area.
