The project ‘Experimental farm Haverkamp’ is one of four winners from province Gelderland of the design competition Bread and Games, a prestigious competition organized by the chief government architect. With the competition he wants to encourage renewal in the countryside. On the 4th of July the submission won an amount of 25,000 euros to develop the plan.
The entry " experimental farm Haverkamp, mixed company for future farmers’ wants to give young farmers a chance, and at the same time, improve the beauty of the landscape. It is an alternative business succession and offers approximately 10 sustainable future farmers space to experiment with future cultures. They offer flexible leases and small living.
The future farmers help each other with a self-sustaining cycle and sharing of the land, the facilities, the machinery and services. The current farmer coordinates. The landscape design is a framework of edible green with flexible space for various agricultural activities. The river landscape is even more beautiful with more biodiversity. This type of experimental farm has a local outlet and is suitable for court transformations in the vicinity of a city.
The jury appreciates the farmer’s slyness of the plan, that even reused the existing buildings. She says: “From this proposal speaks an intelligent combination of social innovation and renewal of rural economy.”
The plan is made with the organic company of the family Hekkert from Terwolde. The creative team consists of Niek Roozen bv landscape architects, , On(t)roerend Goed, studioMAEK, Zin in Buiten en AMS Architecture.
