The combination of water and green open spaces along the existing waterway south of the Hun River connects the western edge of Shenfu and the Hun River with the eastern boundary of the district. Shenfu is located along the Hun River half way between the cities of Shenyang and Fushun and is being built to meet the needs for housing and industrial / commercial uses between the two cities which are growing slowly but surely towards each other. The park along the northern and southern banks of the waterway varies in width, function and character based on the surrounding urban structure.
Phase one of the park is designed as a peaceful natural waterfront park with highlights and open spaces for informal recreation. It is a park full of paths for walking and bicycling which wind through the natural grasslands, forests and lawns with solitary trees. The design also features special park functions such as a water garden, a boulevard with rose garden, the amphitheatre on the water and the numerous perennial gardens along the steep slopes.
Phase two sees the park as one linear park in the English landscape style with highlights and activities, connected by a waterway which flows from a natural to an urban character. The water is the focal point and the paths and plant beds move in gracious flowing curves along the steep banks. Native trees, wetland water edges and natural planting dominate in the western part of the park where it meets the Hun River. Ornamental trees and perennial gardens are scattered along the open lawns in the eastern part of the park. Highlights in the park include various sports facilities, playgrounds, a harbor, a sculpture garden, a central lake, a restaurant island and a look-out hill.
